Great country walks close to V/Line train stations
Victoria's regional trains cover much of the state and you can get to many beautiful and historic towns and parks for a day away from your usual life!
Below we've listed some of our best Victorian regional walks (click on the name of the walk to see a map, photos and information). Walks listed below are within easy walking distance of a V/Line station.

Ballarat, Ararat, Maryborough lines
From Melton Train station it is a 3.2 km walk to Melton Botanic Gardens but you could get the 455 bus along Station Road and Barries Road most of the way there to do our Melton Botanic Garden Walk

Try this Discover Maryborough walk.
From Maryborough you can get a V/Line coach to Avoca where you can experince the gorgeous
Avoca Chinese Garden river walk.
Bendigo, Echuca, Swan Hill lines
Paul has created a fantastic walk taking in his favourite sites in the lovely town. Walk from Sunbury's village green fountain, through the birthplace of the Ashes, Clarke Oval and central Sunbury back to the village green fountain.
This lovely walk called ‘Long way to the Post Office’ takes in some of Kyneton’s loveliest landmarks including the botnic gardens and Campaspe River, the Town Hall and a coffee stop! Walks starts about 400m from train station.

Discover Elmore walk (there’s a miniature train!)
It's a short walk to this beautiful Banyule State Forest walk which traverses the banks of the Murray River
A great way to discover the natural bauty of this town is this Swan Hill River walk.
Geelong, Warrnambool lines
It’s just a short walk from Geelong’s main train station to the waterfront where you can pick up this great walk. Head east along the waterfront if you’d like to finish up at the Geelong Botanic Gardens
From Geelong train station you can get buses to the Surf Coast townships where we've mapped some great walks. Try this link for information about bus routes to towns such as Torquay, Anglesea, Aireys Inlet and Lorne.
It’s a short walk from the train station to the start of this walk which takes in the best of Warrnambool’s waterfront reserves. If you wish to head further afield, the Warrnambool to Port Fairy Rail Trail is nearby. Our Warrnambool beach walk starts just a five-minute walk from the train station.
Seymour, Shepparton, Albury lines

Welcome walk at Jordan's Bend, Shepparton (new walk!)
A walk around the lovely Victoria Lake Park in Shepparton.
Gippsland (V/Line train goes as far as Bairnsdale)
Try the lovely Two Towns Trail. Catch the train to Warragul and then it's a great walk along a trail to Drouin, This walk begins in one park and finihses in another! While it's an 8km trek, you can jump back on a train in Drouin.
This walk takes in the main street and the Morwell Centenary Rose Garden
- Traralgon’s hidden treasures and creek walk
- Traralgon’s lovely Railway Conservation Reserve is not far from the main train station
