Who we are

Victoria Walks® board members are appointed for their skills and experience and do not represent any organisations for which they may be associated.

Kellie-Ann Jolly (Chair)

Kellie-Ann has worked in public health/health promotion for over 20 years as a practitioner, policy advisor, lecturer and manager. Kellie-Ann is currently the CEO of the Heart Foundation (Victoria), she joined the Heart Foundation in 2008 as the Victorian Director of Cardiovascular Health Programs after 16 successful years in health promotion, including as the Director of Physical Activity and Healthy Eating at VicHealth.

Previously at VicHealth, Kellie-Ann was instrumental in developing the Leading the Way – Councils Creating Healthier Communities resource for local government, introduced the Walking School Bus program in 63 Victorian council areas, and initiated an effective partnership with the Planning Institute of Australia (Victoria) to create the Planning and Health initiative. Kellie-Ann played a key role in the development of Victoria Walks.

Emma Hamilton (Treasurer)

Emma is a financial services professional with 20 years’ experience in business strategy and treasury operations in the highly competitive Australian banking industry. She has held a number of senior and executive roles within the funds management and banking sector, and has expertise in managing shareholder, regulatory and customer demands with a thorough understanding of financial implications.

Currently the Treasurer for a not-for-profit childcare provider, Emma is responsible for pricing strategy, budgeting, forecasting and cashflow management. Within this role on the Committee she assists implementation of the strategic plan. Emma is passionate about walking being part of every child’s day.

Daniel King

Daniel King

Daniel has worked with national and international business, local, state and federal government to provide digital marketing services since the 90’s. He has worked with brands including GM Holden, Ford, Pioneer Electronics, Kraft, ING Superannuation, City of Melbourne, VicRoads, Skills Victoria, Department of Justice, CPA, HSBC, Unilever.

Daniel has played key roles and led agencies with national and international reach. He has been Director of Digital at JWT, Director at Keepers, and is now Managing Director at Edge - Content Marketing Agency. He believes the use of communication technologies and the desire to communicate and connect with each other is never ending. He keeps one foot in the present mastering the common trends of communicating today and one foot in the future mastering the emerging trends of communicating tomorrow.

John Hicks

John Hicks is an experienced local government leader who was until recently the CEO of the Shire of Buloke in North West Victoria.  He has previously worked at the City of Port Phillip and the City of Ballarat with expertise in infrastructure and corporate and governance services.  John’s background includes civil engineering both in Australia and overseas.         

John’s passion is developing teams and working with communities to achieve the outcomes they value – exciting results can be achieved when organisations and communities work together. John has a strong commitment to sustainable, liveable communities.  He believes walking is the essential human activity that involves ongoing physical exercise and fitness while at the same time generating community interaction and social connectedness.  John has a Master of Business Administration, a Bachelor of Engineering, is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is an accredited mediator. 

Justin Madden AM

Justin Madden is a Senior Consultant at Arup working closely with the firm's Melbourne Leadership team in strategic project planning and infrastructure development across Australasia and the South East Asian region.

Justin's career includes 15 years in the Victorian State Parliament, having held seven Ministerial portfolios within successive Victorian Labor Governments across 11 years including Minister for Youth Affairs, Minister Assisting the Minister for Planning, Minister for Sport and Recreation, Minister for Commonwealth Games, Minister for Planning and Minister for the Respect Agenda.

Justin was also the President of the AFL Players Association during an AFL career totaling 332 AFL Games with both Carlton and Essendon Football Clubs. Justin is a registered Architect having run his own practice, and qualified teacher.

Sue Fitzpatrick

Sue Fitzpatrick

Sue has a background in communication and media and service development and delivery in the general and mental health and community services sector. She has held a number of Director level roles in Human services, Metropolitan Fire Brigade and Cancer Council Victoria, where she has developed a robust understanding of risk management and corporate governance, as well as a broad range of experience in integrated communication and marketing planning and implementation.

Her most recent role is as Stakeholder and Communications Manager at Housing Choices Australia, a national social housing organisation working towards housing some of the most vulnerable community members in affordable and sustainable housing. Sue believes that walking is a great way of boosting general and mental health in our community.

Trevor Budge AM

Trevor is Manager, Strategy at the City of Greater Bendigo and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Community Planning and Development Program at the Bendigo campus of La Trobe University where he taught for 14 years. He is a Ministerial appointee on the Board of the Victorian Planning Authority. He  has worked in urban, rural, regional, statutory and strategic planning since 1975 throughout rural and regional Australia and has worked extensively in the planning and development of many regional cities and country towns. For 16 years he conducted his own consulting business. 

Trevor is a former state president, a Life Fellow and has a National Lifetime Achievement Award from the Planning Institute of Australia. He became a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia in June 2011 for service to town planning, particularly the development of regional and rural communities in Victoria, and to education.

Supported by Ben Rossiter (Secretary and Executive Officer)

Ben Rossiter is the founding Executive Officer and has led a small but enterprising team of staff to see the organisation become the primary walking organisation leading the move towards the creation of walkable communities in Australia.   

Ben is the Vice President of the International Federation of Pedestrians and his expertise is widely sought in Australia and beyond. He is an engaging speaker who recently gave Keynotes at 2WALKandCYCLE Conference, Auckland 2016 and a plenary presentation and was on a panel at Walk21 Hong Kong, 2016. He spoke at the ADC Forum's Creating Healthy Cities Summit, Melbourne 2015. The theme of his doctoral dissertation was walking in cities. He has been on numerous government advisory committees relating to walking, transport and planning.

Ben takes great pleasure in the simple joy of walking, getting lost in urban areas and exploring new places on foot.
